This panoramic
image by noted photographer Stephen Johnson is unique due to its incredibly
high resolution. A specially modified BetterLight Digital Camera back
on a rotating platform was used to capture the photograph. This is
one of the highest resolution images ever made of the World Trade
Center Towers and the surrounding skyline. The uninterpolated file
size of this all-digital image is approximately one-half gigabyte.
Stephen made this image from Liberty Island State Park in New Jersey
on a visit to New York in October 1998. He has been a leader in experimental
use of breakthrough digital technologies for more than a decade and
is generally acknowledged as one of the world's premier expert's in
the field.
San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. donated a print of this image to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg as part of Mayor Brown's September 11th 2002 memorial ceremonies. The image was accepted on behalf of Mayor Bloomberg on 10/29/02 by the Executive Director of the New York City Art Commission, Deborah Bershad. Proteus Workshop acts as agent for Stephen Johnson and facilitated both the donation by Mayor Brown and the acceptance by the Office of Mayor Bloomberg.
This image has been printed out as large as 3 X 13 feet and could
be printed even larger due to the very large original file size. For
